>>>>Beginner Classes

Learn the basics of watercolor painting in a relaxed atmosphere. You will enjoy these four Saturday sessions trying out a variety of painting techniques taught be an experienced watercolor artist. The classes will run from 9 am til noon.

Who should take this class? You don’t need any experience to take this class, and if you have done some watercolor painting, you can use this as a refresher course. Watercolors are a never-ending learning experience.

Why take a watercolor class? If you’ve ever tried watercolor painting, you will have experienced how alive a medium watercolors is. There’s nothing quite like dropping blue paint into a wet sky to see what will happen. It’s never the same twice. These classes will help you understand watercolor painting a bit better, teach you some methods to create certain effects and have fun in the process.

When is the class? The classes will be held on Jan. 23, 30 & Feb. 6, 13. The time is 9:00 am -12:00 noon. We’ll take a short coffee break. Coffee and tea will be provided.
Who is the instructor? The teacher is John Wiens. I have been involved in graphic arts for more decades than I care to remember. I have been painting watercolors for about 25 years. My style is realistic and detailed. You can see my paintings at www.mywatercolorpage.com.

How much does it cost?
The cost for the 4 Saturday sessions is $70. (Payable with the registration.)

What do I need to bring? If there’s not a supply list with this application, call me at 401-5839 and I will send you one. (You may already have some of the item.) I’ve tried to keep it simple.

>>>>Intermediate Classes
Intermediate watercolor painting classes Have you dabbled in watercolors and enjoyed the experience? Would you like to learn the skills to get to your next level? You can learn more about the exciting medium of watercolor painting in an encouraging and relaxed atmosphere with a teacher who has more than 25 years of experience.

Who should take this class? These classes are for those who have learned watercolor basics like flat and gradated washes, wet-on-wet, etc. You don’t have to be advanced, but you should feel comfortable with working on your own painting. You certainly don’t have to know how to solve all the problems you may encounter in a watercolor painting...that’s what the class is all about.

Why take a watercolor class? Watercolor paintings are the most exciting of all painting mediums (in my humble opinion) but there is also a learning curve involved. If you find yourself getting to the place in a picture where you ask, “What do I do next?” or, “What’s wrong with this picture?” then this is the class for you.

What happens during the class? Each student will be working on their own painting project. I will be walking around helping people with the various challenges they face in their painting. Those individual learning experiences will also be good opportunities to instruct the whole class. I will also do some demonstrations on watercolor techniques, showing how to achieve certain effects.
Everyone needs to be working on at least 2 projects so that while one watercolor is drying, the student can be working on another one. (I personally have about 4 or 5 paintings on the go at any one time. It is useful to be able to continue working while a painting is drying and it is also great for those times when you get bored with
Is there a supply list? If you’ve been painting for a little while, you probably have all the supplies you need to start in this class . If you need things like new paints or bigger brushes, you can get them at an art store or online and use them in future classes.
The item you will need and may not have is a method to stretch watercolor paper such as a watercolor stretcher or blocks of watercolor paper. Since we will be working on 2 paintings at a time, you will need 2 of whatever you will use to stretch the paper.
Those who are interested in the watercolor stretchers that I manufacture can check it out here.
